An error occurred while starting the application

If ABC Tracker does not open successfully, the following message may appear:

An error occurred while starting the application, visit abctracker.org/startup for known resolutions. If problem persists, please contact us at abctracker.org/support.

Known Resolutions

1. Install Java 8 SDK

The correct version of Java can be downloaded here:  http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html

The Java Development Kit (JDK) is required for using ABC Tracker. It is important to download the JDK instead of just the Java Runtime Environment (JRE).

ABC Tracker can be set to run as an administrator every time that it is opened: run ABC Tracker as an admin
2. Run ABC Tracker as an administrator

Certain locations on Windows computers are protected by Windows' User Account Control (UAC). For example, it is common for UAC to protect these locations:

  • C:\Program Files
  • C:\Windows

If the ABC Tracker application is placed in a UAC protected folder, then the shortcut for ABC Tracker must be modified to be run as an administrator. This allows ABC Tracker to write data to disk inside of the application root.

To make this change, read this support article.
